Susan Watson

Susan Watson is a Licensed Tax Consultant, and co-owner of Phelps & Watson, LLC. She is proud to be a Coos County native and resident of Allegany. Living in Allegany makes her daily commute a bit challenging (particularly in the winter months), but the country lifestyle suits her.

Susan graduated from Marshfield High School in 1979 and went to Southwestern Oregon Community College to earn her Associate in Science in Business Technology-Accounting in 1981. From there she transferred to Southern Oregon State College in Ashland, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1984.

First and foremost, it was always Susan’s plan to move back home and start her career in her hometown. Since her wish was to work for a local CPA firm she decided to make herself more employable by taking the Oregon exams to become licensed as a tax consultant. This successfully started out her career of preparing income taxes, and she now has thirty-seven tax seasons under her belt! She is well-versed in rolling with the changes in tax law that the IRS and Congress dish out, as well as providing technical support for the firm.

Susan joined the firm of Michael A. Gordon, CPA, LLC in 1997, and was a part of that firm up until the time when Mike Gordon decided to retire, in June of 2020. When his current staff banded together to carry the business forward, Susan joined with Kim Phelps and became a co-owner of Phelps & Watson, LLC. It was important to her that our work family stayed together.

Susan became involved in the community in a big way back in December of 2005, when she joined a group of local individuals in a rally to save the Egyptian Theatre. She was one of the founders of the Egyptian Theatre Preservation Association, filed for their non-profit status, and served as treasurer on the ETPA board for nine years. She is very proud that the Egyptian Theatre is still going strong. Her interests now revolve mostly around spending time on her property in Allegany, where hiking and fishing are right out her back door.
